The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Lebanon has published official clarifications regarding the Type Approval procedure for telecom-enabled equipment, aiming to streamline the regulatory framework for manufacturers and importers.

Key Application Insights
  • Type Approval applications must be submitted in the name of the equipment manufacturer.
  • This process can be completed directly by the manufacturer or through an authorized representative, agent, or intermediary.
  • The scope of this regulation covers telecom-enabled equipment whether imported as a standalone device, an embedded component, or a spare part.

Certificate Validity and Market Entry
A significant clarification concerns the use of certificates across the supply chain. Once a Type Approval Certificate is granted for a specific model, it is valid for that product across the market. Consequently, individual importers, distributors, or official representatives do not need to obtain separate certificates for the same approved model, provided the imported equipment matches the original technical specifications.

For manufacturers, this clarification reinforces the need to maintain rigorous technical compliance documentation, as these records may be audited during market surveillance activities.

Staying compliant in the Lebanese market requires a clear understanding of your current product classification and the associated certification schemes.
